| Welcome
to the Pastor’s Corner of our web page. For over
130 years our church has been an active part of our surrounding
community. From our beginning, in a small one room log school
house, our congregation has seen themselves as “a light on
the hill” (it has been said that Samaria is located on the
highest point in the Raleigh area). From a humble log
building our congregation moved into a larger wooded sanctuary in
1878. By 1930 our congregation had erected its third, and
existing sanctuary, a beautiful stone structure made possible when the
city of Raleigh removed its cobblestone streets and donated the stones
to our church fathers. As a congregation we see as our
purpose to be “Christ Centered, Kingdom Focused and Mission
Driven.” We are a diverse congregation with a common understanding that we are a “group of broken people with a perfect Savior.” We have a warm and accepting fellowship that is striving to know and grow in their Christian experience. As the interim Pastor, I can tell you that we teach and preach God’s Word. Each week the members of our congregation are challenged to go out and be a witness to those around them. If you are looking for a church home I would use the simple words that Jesus used when he called His first disciples… “come and see.” Come and see what we are all about. |
Do
you like to read? I do! And one of the most helpful
“habits” that I have developed over the years of my
ministry is to read books from Christian writers that help me in my
spiritual growth and understanding. Over the next nine months
I will be sharing with you the names of books that I have found not
only interesting, but valuable in my understanding of the Bible and
Biblical events. These books will be from the series “Great
Lives from God’s Word” by Thomas Nelson
Publishing. The featured writer is probably my favorite
author/preacher Charles R. Swindoll. |
